Dear Colleagues,

As you may have heard during our professional week meetings, the College is beginning its Middle States accreditation Self-Study process.  This is a process that asks us to analyze our mission, ethics, teaching practices, student support, assessment, planning/budgeting, and leadership/governance; it is a process that involves every area of the College.  As we begin this process, it is essential that we hear from the College community about our strengths, challenges, and opportunities in each area and also hear from the College community about what we, as an institution, would like to gain from this self-study process.

As a starting point, we will be offering a series of sessions over the next three weeks.  These 90 minute sessions will provide both a basic overview of the accreditation process and Middle States’ standards as well as provide an opportunity for discussion and feedback from those who participate.  Staff, Faculty, and Administrators can sign up for sessions in order to receive professional development credit through MC Learns:  once in the system, click the “Pedagogy and Instruction” area, then scroll through the offerings to look for Middle States.  Attendees are also welcome to register in person at the session.  Students are also welcome to participate in these sessions, and will receive certificates of attendance to document their participation.

Middle States Accreditation Self-Study: Listening Tour Sessions

Every ten years, our institution is required to demonstrate that it meets the Middle States Commission on Higher Education’s requirements and standards for accreditation.  This year, Montgomery College begins the planning process for this self-study and peer review.  In this information session we will provide information about our accreditation self-study process and the standards that we are required to meet.  In addition, we will revisit the College mission and discuss how it relates to our individual roles on a daily basis.  Participants will be able to provide input on what they feel are Montgomery College’s strengths, challenges, and opportunities and suggest what the College should seek to gain through the self-study process.
