“Translating Solidarity: A Workshop on Witness Poetry Translation”
Wednesday, March 30, 2:00 to 4:30 PM, Science Center, Room 152 (Rockville)
This a master class with poet Alicia Partnoy, primarily for students. Seating is limited, so those interested must register with me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Those who can only stay for part of the workshop are also welcome.
Students will do some hands-on translation work (for those students who do not speak any other language, editing translations will work). Ms. Partnoy’s project involves the poetry of a mother from Ciudad Juarez who started to write after the disappearance of her daughter. First, Ms. Partnoy will read and reflect on her work as a translator, and then students will work on translation projects in groups.
